Le Jardin d’Acclimatation

Activities

Originally, the Jardin d’Acclimatation was a garden where exotic animals and plants were installed to further their development in France. It is an idea of Napoleon III which a lot of people enjoyed at the time because these animals were completely new for them. Here is the first aim of such a garden: education. Nowadays, even if there are not rare animals anymore, this education purpose is still very present. Along with a beautiful garden in such a large setting come the workshops open to everybody, from babies aged 3 months, kids of 3 years-old, to adults. If you plan to go to Paris with your kids, it is a very good idea to bring them to do the activities provided by the Jardin d’Acclimatation because they all are well run by a kind staff who is used to doing it.

In the gardens, there are also a lot of games in two different areas your kids can play to while you enjoy the garden in itself, its several delicious cafés and restaurants. There are also some attractions, such as the merry-go-round village which is amazing.

But the most picturesque thing in the Jardin d’Acclimatation is the little train, which picks you up at the metro station Porte Maillot and drops off in front of the main entrance of the garden. This train was actually drawn by horses at the beginning, but today, it is a typical Renault locomotive engine which does it. The way is 1.6km long, and is amazing. Then, you can hang around, by feet or riding a horse to discover to whole garden and its various activities: the pond, the mini cruises on the lake, the Guignol theatre and the theatre of the Garden, some animals in their typical environment such as the deers, bees, birds, and the kitchen garden where you can take classes.

We loved: definitely, the feeling of being into a microcosm, close to Nature and creation. The ambiance created by the families, picnics and creative activities, the impression of being part of a big family on entering the garden.

Top tip: the art classes for all ages which allows the kids to get to know the basics in a lot of fields, such as cuisine, botanic, sculpture, painting, circus, magic, theatre, musical, perfume, music, calligraphy… and quite the same activities can be organized for adults! Last great tip is you can organize private events in the garden itself, either for conferences or simply to celebrate the birthday of your children.

Thus, nobody can say children won’t enjoy visiting abroad with their parents! And neither the parents say that it is difficult to find activities for both adults and children :)

Location: Bois de Boulogne, Paris 16th District – Metro station Les Sablons or Porte Maillot (Line 1). Don’t forget to take the train!

Prices : from 1.50 to 3EUR to enter the park, plus 2.70EUR/attraction (they have a sliding scale of prices if you take 15, 25 or 50 tickets). The train costs 2.70EUR or 5.60EUR return + entrance.
