The Plaza Athénée is one of the 8 French Palaces, ideally located in the Golden Triangle avenue Montaigne. Its location made famous the avenue Montaigne where many luxurious haute-couture brands (Armani, Chanel, Chloé, Cartier, Dior…) settled down in order to be closer to the Plaza. It is thus a great place for shopping, but not only! You can actually go to the Théâtre des Champs Elysées to see an opera or to listen to classical music, and the Musée du Quai Branly is only a few blocks away… The choice its location gives to its guests is a reason why this palace is so appreciated. To my mind, it is one of the best located palace in Paris since you are in the center of Paris, not very far away from the Champs Elysées and the Eiffel Tower: Paris belongs to you!
The hotel provides its guests an exceptional service. Upon arrival, the staff (more than 500 persons!) kindly welcomes you and will try, until the end of your stay, to make you feel the most comfortable they can. You are considered as a member of the Plaza Athénée as soon as you arrive, and everything will be made for you to feel like you are at home.
The setting is part of this feeling of being at home since the whole palace is decorated in warm colors to enhance a cosy atmosphere. The lobby and the first six floors are set with ancient furniture in the classical French style (Louis XVI and Régence), the two last floors are Art Déco, and so you have the choice when you do a reservation to get the setting which suits you the most.
The Plaza provides nearly 200 bedrooms (30 to 45sqm) and 45 suites (60 to 150sqm, and the biggest one, the Suite Royale, is 450sqm), among which more than 80% can be connected. It is thus very easy to go to the Plaza with your kids. They also often decorate bedrooms in special occasions with kids-friendly sets (Barbie and Hot Wheels last year in August). Moreover, you have the choice between smoking or non smoking bedrooms, which is an advantage for everyone. The bedrooms are set with leading-edge equipment, such as the Internet through TV, a direct line on the phone, air music and a quite big safe, although nothing is show off and suits well in the environment. Finally, according to the reviews, the beds and bathrooms are very comfy and convenient! Finally, most of the rooms have a view on the garden in the courtyard of the hotel, or on the Avenue Montaigne; the suites have in addition a view on the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre.
There are one bar and five restaurants belonging to the Plaza Athénée. The bar, made by P. Jouin, is directed by Thierry Hernandez who makes fabulous cocktails and amuse-bouches for his guests, from 6pm to 2am. The ambiance there is great, it is now well-known from the chic side of Paris, so if you want to discover the trendy side of Paris, don’t hesitate to go there! The restaurants are directed by Alain Ducasse, among them you will find the “Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée” 3* Michelin Restaurant who elaborates a cuisine in relation with Nature in order to make you go back to the origins, back to your senses; the Relais Plaza is a chic bistro providing a brasserie and traditional French cuisine in an Art Déco setting where you can have lunch or dinner; La Cour Jardin is the restaurant set in the garden during the summer which provides a natural and biological cuisine, don’t forget to book your table, it is very famous now since everything is delicious! ; at the Galerie des Gobelins, you can have lunch or a cup of tea, the desserts are made by Christophe Michalak (yummy!); finally, you can go to the Terrasse Montaigne, next to the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, to enjoy a modern meal at anytime of the day.
As a conclusion, we should say that the Plaza Athénée enhances an idea of the French luxury, classy and chic. But what seems the most important to us is the warm atmosphere and welcoming of the staff, which allows us to say that the Plaza is really worth having the Palace Distinction.
We loved: nearly everything… but especially the bar where you can go even if you don’t have a room at the Plaza. The cocktails and mocktails (without alcohol) are incredible and amazing! They are really worth their prices (18/25EUR)
Top tip: the Dior spa with their fabulous face cares, the view on Paris’ roofs! You can also organize private events, book a saloon for a day or several. But, more interesting to my opinion, you can organize wine testings in the cellar, for connoisseurs or not, and taste 6-8-10 wines among the 36 000 bottles of the Plaza. Doesn’t it make you dream?
